The children on the TGS School Council continue to show their support for the Ukraine crisis. Following on from their highly successful cake sale at the end of last term, which raised over £1000 in humanitarian aid, the School Council organised a schoolwide ‘Support Ukraine Day’ which was held on Thursday 12th May 2022.
In preparation for ‘Support Ukraine Day’, children in Lower School had fun decorating packet labels with crayons, as well as counting 50 giant sunflower seeds for each. Our School Council chose the sunflower because of its importance as the Ukrainian national flower, as well as a symbol of hope, solidarity, and peace between nations.
On Thursday morning the School Councillors stood at the school gates and sold these sunflower seed packets with bright smiles on their faces. All TGS children were invited to dress in the colours of the Ukrainian national flag—blue and yellow—and donate £2 towards this important initiative.
Between their sunflower seed sale and charitable donations, the School Council raised an amazing £407.18 to help Ukrainians in need. This wonderful amount has now been donated to the United Nations Refugee Agency, an organisation that provides emergency shelter and essential items to Ukrainian refugees.
