Form 6 Bring Islington to Life Through Art

16th July 26

This term, our Form 6 pupils have been exploring the world beyond the school gates through their art lessons, turning their attention to the shops and businesses that make up our local community in Islington. Each child selected a shop front from the surrounding area and set about illustrating it in detail. The focus was on capturing not just the outward appearance of each building, but the character behind it: the architecture, the colour palettes, the lettering and signage that give each business its own identity on the high street.

Among the local establishments chosen by the children were Gibson’s Coffee, Islington Townhouse, Crumb, Oh Fleurs, the Alma and Pistachio and Pickle Dairy.

The project encouraged the children to look closely at their surroundings and to consider how design, colour and detail combine to create a sense of place. It also gave them a valuable opportunity to engage with the community on their doorstep, learning to see familiar streets with a more observant, artistic eye.

Once the artworks were complete, we were delighted to share them with each of the businesses depicted. The response from the local shop owners was warm and appreciative, and it was a pleasure to be able to celebrate our neighbours in this way.

We would like to extend our thanks to our Art Teacher, Miss Lucy Wragg, for devising and leading such a thoughtful and engaging project, and for inspiring our pupils to take pride in the community around them.
