Nursery and Primary Children Celebrate World Book Day

11th March 24

On Thursday 7th March our Nursery and Primary school were full of storytelling excitement as we celebrated World Book Day. From babies to children who are eleven years old, everyone got in on the fun and dressed up as a character from their favourite book.

In our Nursery, each group chose a book to focus their activities around. Nursery books included ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen, ‘Pip and Posy: The New Friend’ and ‘Pip and Posy: The Scary Monster’ by Axel Scheffler and ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileen Browne. Our oldest pre-school group read the book ‘I Am Enough’ by Grace Byers and Ketruah A. Bobo, which emphasises the importance of embracing our differences, preferences and individual quirks, whilst loving ourselves and those around us. To complement this message of self-love, the children painted portraits of themselves whilst looking into a mirror.

In our Primary school, the whole school gathered to celebrate World Book Day with a very special morning assembly. Our Year 6 School Librarians and Drama Captains put on a dazzling show themed around reading the book ‘The Wind in the Willows’ by Kenneth Grahame. A film reel of the children’s wonderful costumes can be viewed on our Nursery Instagram page.

Our World Book Day celebrations were a fantastic transition into another literary-focused week: Meet the Author Week. Children’s author Doro Globus visited to share her fabulous children’s book ‘I am an Artist’. Many more published authors will visit the school as a part of this literary initiative to share their stories, writing tips and expertise with the children.
