16th December 22
Throughout late November and December, the children on TGS’s School Council appealed for Christmas gifts to donate to children in care in Islington. This follows from the school’s previous drives to supporting local children in care, who through no fault of their own will face a very difficult Christmas.
The appeal was introduced in November through the very moving John Lewis Christmas advert this year, which is entitled ‘the Beginner’. Thanks to the generosity and thoughtfulness of TGS families, the School Councillors successfully collected a record 267 bags of gift donations. The sight of all the bags was astounding, and many contained multiple presents of puzzles, markers and pens, colouring books, board games, craft activities and more.
On Wednesday 7th December, our primary school was visited by representatives of the London Borough of Islington, who collected the bags with big smiles on their faces. It was an astounding moment when they realised the bus they had driven in would barely fit all the donated gifts!
Thank you so much to everyone who took part to help local children in care enjoy a Merry Christmas–you will have truly made a difference to children in Islington.
