Nursery Co-curricular

Here at The Gower School, nursery children have the opportunity to enjoy an array of co-curricular activities each day.

Yoga

Our Nursery staff are trained in Yogabeez children’s yoga, and lead weekly sessions focusing on a variety of poses.

Music

Music is especially important for little children – and it is a key part of our days at the nursery.

We run weekly music sessions with two different teachers on Tuesdays and Thursdays: Miss Sarah on piano, and Miss Louise on guitar. They teach the children a range of songs and each bring their own style to the nursery.

All of our nursery practitioners receive Kodály training – an interactive, collaborative, and highly kinesthetic method that develops musicianship through singing. As a result, our rooms are filled with song.

Plus, we also have a programme of introducing live music to the children. Each term, we invite professional musicians to come to the nursery and play alongside them during their music lessons with Miss Sarah. So far, we have welcomed violinists, flautists, and cellists, and our babies and children love hearing and interacting with the different textures and sounds.Sports & Languages

The older children at the nursery are also offered lessons in French and Spanish, plus sports and tennis at Islington Tennis Centre.

Dance

Our ballet teacher Miss Milli, who also teaches at our Primary School, leads classes for nursery children. We also offer Diddi Dance lessons, to help children enhance their coordination and rhythm, as well as Gymboree for our youngest children.

Creative & Messy Play Activities

These include arts and crafts, sand and water play, mud kitchen, and dance and movement sessions – to name just a few!

Festivals & Events

We have an extensive calendar of events at The Gower School nursery. We enjoy learning about and celebrating every festival and culture from Chinese New Year, to Holi Indian Festival of Colours to International Food Week. Classes also plan for a variety of events at the nursery, ranging from National Storytelling Week, to World Nursery Rhyme Week, to Fruit Week and Vegetable Week.

Trips & Visits

We like to make the most of our Central London location, taking our children to the local park, farms, theatre, library, and make annual trips to London Zoo, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.
