TGS School Council raises £350 for the Royal British Legion

14th November 22

Each November The Gower School raises funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

At our Primary school, children elected to School Council sold poppies outside the school gates each morning. Lower School children sewed felt poppies to sell in addition to the paper poppies provided by the Royal British Legion. No matter the rainy Autumn weather, children stood outside the school gates each morning to fundraise. These hand sewn poppies were also used to create the school wreath which our Head Boy and Head Girl laid on the war memorial during the Islington’s Remembrance Sunday services.

At both our Nursery and Primary school, children engaged with several art activities surrounding the holiday. Nursery children created crafts which supported their early learning, such as painting jars and cutting tissue flowers with safety scissors. Our Primary-aged children created lots of artwork during their regular art lessons, using charcoal, chalk and oil pastels to bring some really vivid pieces to life.

The dedication shown by both our schools has certainly paid off, as TGS Primary raised £233.50 in aid, while TGS Nursery raised £116. Our school community is very pleased to donate a total of £349.50 to the Royal British Legion.

We thank everyone who purchased a poppy or a piece of art in support of such an important organisation. Photos of the children’s poppy artwork can be viewed below and on our school Facebook page.
