26th May 23
On Thursday 25th May The Gower School nursery and primary school celebrated their third annual Founder’s Day celebrations. Founder’s Day marks the founding of the school each year, which formed over twenty years ago. The theme of this year’s festivities was ‘Sunshine and Happiness’, and children at both school sites were invited to wear outfits that represented these feelings to them. This of course meant some wonderful costumes, and the school halls were filled with princesses, ball gowns, superheroes, cowboys, police officers and more.
At the primary school, the morning began with some lively musical entertainment outside the school gates. A lovely three-piece steel pan band set a carribean beach tone, and treated us to a variety of upbeat music, and children, parents and teachers gathered round to listen, sing and dance to the music. The talented balloon man mesmerised the children with his inflatable creations, and our juggler astounded the children with his circus skills. Party supremo Mr Twizzle (dressed in a spectacular multicoloured suit) provided delightful commentary and welcomed everyone so well. The buzzy atmosphere gave a wonderful sense of our whole primary community together – what a great way to start the day off.
Instead of their usual lessons, school children took part in creative and engaging music, art and dance activities on the theme of Sunshine and Happiness. Especially popular with all the children were class magic shows with Mr Twizzle, creative clay sculpting, dancing, circus skills and special music lessons. After a special lunch of vegetable sushi rolls, each class was treated with a vanilla ice cream from a special ice cream van!
At our nursery, the young children were delighted by the beach-themed sand and water play laid out in our gardens, which included sand areas, paddling pools, splash pads, inflatable palm trees and beach balls, and a bubble machine which of course delighted the children as it filled the air with floating bubbles. The older groups also had lots of fun playing at the playground, and were treated to delicious ice cream and raspberry frozen yoghurts The children were so excited by our highly entertaining balloon artist, who deftly whipped up dozens of balloon creations to the astonished eyes of the children as well as performed magic tricks.
