The results for the national ISA Poetry Competition 2022 are in! In November 2022, TGS entered three poems to the creative and rigorous competition which received over 160 total entries from schoolchildren around the UK. To participate, children wrote original poems in response to the title prompt ‘I Never Knew’, which were then selected to enter the national competition by a panel of teachers and school librarians.
We are pleased to announce the a Form 6 boy has been awarded as ‘Highly Commended’ in the Junior category for his ‘record-breaking’ twist on the poem prompt ‘I Never Knew’. This is the first time that a TGS child has achieved such a result, and we are incredibly proud! The judges commented that his poem was ‘a string of wonderful images all infused with the humour of curiosity’, and that his rhyme scheme ‘really helps the poem roll along.’
Participating in the national competition is an accomplishment in itself, and all three children should be very pleased with their poems. We would like to thank Miss Kennedy, our Form 5 teacher, who organised and judged our internal poetry competition, and who encourages so many children ton involves themselves with literature and writing!
