This half term, pupils in our Forms 5 and 6 Extension English group have been exploring the wonderful world of sonnets. The children have been studying the form closely, getting to grips with the rhythms, rhymes, and rules that make a Shakespearean sonnet so distinctive.
To put their newfound knowledge into practice, each child chose a topic close to their heart and put pen to paper to write their very own sonnet, which is no small feat. Together, their four poems form An Ode to the Gower School, a collection of original sonnets that captures the many different sides of school life and the values we hold dear in class. Writing in strict poetic form is a real challenge, and the children have risen to it brilliantly.
