A Form 5 pupil recently led a heart-warming fundraising initiative to support Magic Breakfast, a charity that provides nutritious breakfasts to children at risk of starting their school day hungry.
With a combination of a second-hand book sale and a JustGiving page, he successfully raised a remarkable £1,300. This amount is enough to fund 4,652 breakfasts for children across the UK.
The inspiration for his initiative came from a growing awareness of food insecurity, especially after witnessing people sleeping rough. Each time he encountered someone in need, he would urge his family to stop and offer them a hot meal and a drink. His desire to do more led him to explore volunteer opportunities, but age restrictions meant many roles were limited.
With the support of his younger sister, who is a Form 1 pupil, he organised a secondhand book sale, which sold nearly £500 worth of donated books.
The response from Magic Breakfast was one of deep appreciation:
“A massive well done to you all—this is an incredible achievement. Please pass on our thanks to the pupil and his helper. Their amazing support and generous donation will help us provide approx. 5,482 breakfasts to children and young people in our partner schools.”
