Early Years Foundation Stage Moderation Report 2016

The Gower School had a visit from a team of Early Years Foundation Stage moderators from Islington Council during Summer 2016 term. Each school is moderated to ensure that their teachers mark in a similar way, to enable schools to know that they are setting clear benchmarks for children’s progress.

The moderators are experienced teachers and advisory teachers. They observed the reception class, looked at the standards of work, and the teachers profile scores for a range of children. They commented on the gradings for the children, and looked at the facilities and resources.

Our visitors were impressed by the school’s excellent practice after spending time in the classrooms and speaking with many children and their teachers. Their complimentary report says “Teachers build their knowledge of what each child knows and can do throughout the year. This approach is very thorough which support them in making accurate end of year judgements. The teachers really knew their children and had ample evidence.
