TGS Celebrates Author Julia Donaldson

22nd November 21

On Thursday 18th November, The Gower School was delighted to celebrate Julia Donaldson Dress Up Day.

Children were invited to dress up as their favourite Julia Donaldson character and listen to special readings of the author’s terrific books. With stories filled with amusing alliteration, rhyme schemes, and impactful illustrations, the books are a great way for parents to expose children to literary techniques from an early age. On top of that, the books are great fun for parents and children alike!

Children aged 4-7 years dressed up in astounding costumes of characters from Julia Donaldson’s books. Popular characters included Zog the dragon, the Highway Rat, Tabby McTat, Stickman, the Gruffalo, and more. The day’s in-classroom activities included crafting Gruffalo masks, solving math word problems based on the books ‘The Snail and the Whale’, and ‘The Gruffalo’, and hunting for a hidden Zog plush using clues.

Parents also volunteered to visit the school and read to children throughout the day. A sincere thank you to all parents who gave their time to fill the day with whimsical stories. What a fun opportunity for children to express their love of reading and unleash their creativity!
