Following a very successful rollout in January, TGS children enjoyed another month of Book Recommendations in February.
This initiative enables the children to share their passion for reading with their peers. We have been pleased to hear from many children who have tried the recommended titles, and discovered all-new stories and characters to capture their imaginations.
February also saw the beginning of our annual Readathon event, in aid of Read For Good, a UK charity that supports children in hospitals nationwide by providing them with books and professional storytellers. Children simply choose books to read, and raise money by asking friends and family to sponsor them per book or per minute of reading. Readathon 2021 coincided with the half term break, so as you can imagine, our Book Recommendation provided much-needed inspiration for all our bookworms!
Every week, children from each class group have the chance to share their own book recommendations with their teacher. Our teachers then discuss these options with our Librarian in Form Six, who will choose a shortlist from these suggestions and announce them during our assembly each Friday morning.
The most popular titles among TGS children throughout February 2021 were as follows…
