The Gower School young cellist, age 10, has qualified as a finalist for the Independent Schools Association’s Young Musician 2020 competition. The competition was open to children from 500 schools across the country, and children of all ages competed to get through to the final – this is a great achievement for the ten-year-old. She will compete with other children from 22 schools around the country on Sunday 26th January 2020 at the Warwick Arts Centre.
The Year Five child has studied the cello since she was three years old with the renowned cellist and teacher Annette Costanzi. She also is a leading light in The Gower School’s String Ensemble, which is part of the school’s weekly out of school enrichment programme.
In other good news for her, a place in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain is imminent. During the autumn 2019 she auditioned for the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain (NCO-GB), and was offered a place on the cello in the Under 10 NCO-GB Orchestra for 2020. She will be joining a week-long intensive summer residency with the National Orchestra at Port Regis School in Dorset, which will conclude with a concert performance. In addition, she was invited to join the NCO London Juniors – Regional Orchestra, which will meet monthly and conclude with a concert performance in June in St Paul’s School, Barnes.
The school Principal Emma Gowers said: “This is fantastic news for a talented student. Huge congratulations for her incredible achievements so far and best of luck at the national finals!”
