The Gower School student Highly Commended at the national Shakespeare monologues competition

Congratulations to Martha Glaser, age 10, who was Highly Commended in the Key Stage 2 category of the Independent Schools Association’s national Shakespeare Monologues competition 2019 with her amazing rendition as Puck from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Judge James Hartley commented: “A lovely, smiley, magical Puck – nicely staged and presented and spoken beautifully.”

In the film clip, Martha presents a spirited, happy, blue haired Puck – and Martha did a lot of the work preparing herself with the help of The Gower School’s LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) teachers. Martha’s prize from the school was a topical Shakespeare anthology.

School Principal Emma Gowers congratulated Martha, saying: “This is the first year we have been teaching LAMDA, and the first time we have entered the competition. Martha was chosen from over 100 other children, and it is brilliant to see some of our talented children getting recognised in a national competition. Huge congratulations to Martha!”
