TGS girls’ fantastic football win

Our team won the Independent Schools Association (South) Under 11 Girls Football competition on 24th May! The girls went through the whole competition day undefeated at Saint Nicolas Prep School in Essex, beating Alton Convent School in the final match. They are now through to the national finals in June at St. George’s Park, England’s training ground!

Our team faced 11 other schools that travelled from across the south from Somerset to Hampshire to Central London. The ISA reported: “The competitiveness was outstanding and the girls continued to exemplify how football should be played. The final was closely fought between two teams in very good form. Eventually, a penalty kick was powered in to the goal by The Gower School striker and they were crowned Champions of the South.”

In addition to the football matches, the girls received a skills training session with Tottenham Hotspur coaches with the Ladies manager, Karen Hills, watching on. This was a wonderful experience for the team and hopefully they learnt something new in preparation for the finals.

We are very proud of our hardworking girls and the sports team, best of luck in the National Cup finals!
