The
Music Room
Music
features heavily at TGS, every group has a daily slot in the Music
Room to make music - sing, dance, play percussion instruments and
be creative.
The school Principal, Emma Gowers, studied music at a London conservatoire
and has many years teaching experience. She believes strongly that
children benefit enormously through exposure to regular music and
singing sessions. Our experience shows that our children who have
attended daily music as babies grow into confident singers and performers
at a very early age.

The Music Room is a lovely
room looking out onto the garden, and is equipped with a piano, lots
of percussion instruments and piles of comfy cushions. Every morning a specialist
musician visits the school to work with each group, playing the piano to accompany
singing and leading percussion work. There are lots
of different CD's from children's songs to Irish folk music to African
drumming so that children can join in or listen. Additionally, we also use the music
room for music, movement and drama.
From the very youngest babies upwards every group has their own special
time when they can join in jiggling and copying actions to songsü as children grow older there are lots of circle songs and opportunities
to take turns, too. Learning longer songs is a good memory test -
for teachers as well as children! |
