General
At the Gower
School we believe that every child is special.
More than
that, at The Gower School we believe every child is as unique as the
service we offer. We offer all year round quality education and care
for children in our nursery and school from 3 months to 4 years and
from 4 to 7 years.
Outdoor
activities form an integral part of the life of the school, for both
education and recreation. Children will learn about plants and wildlife,
and be able to release excess energy in the outdoor play area.
Daily music
sessions and family lunches all help create a home from home atmosphere
to make their day as useful and as enjoyable as it would be at home.
Outside school hours, older children (4+) are offered the option to
join a variety of stimulating clubs and activities, which entertain
them through Breakfast Club and the after school period.
All our activities
can be characterised by one thing: the depth of thinking that has gone
into their planning and delivery. We plan and structure the day to enhance
the individual child's social, intellectual and physical development
whilst preparing children for entrance to the next stage of schooling.
Activities
are carefully designed to meet and exceed the nationally recognised
early learning goals for pre-school children, and our curriculum embraces
all children from 3 months to 7 years.
Kindness
and good manners are key to our school philosophy, and children learn
to care for and respect each other as well as for their environment.
Our staff
are all highly trained and the school is very well equipped to enable
a wide range of activities to take place. This ensures that the basic
skills of numeracy, literacy & investigation are well developed, in
a quiet, firmly controlled, yet happily informal atmosphere.
As children
move through into the school at 4 years, we offer a broad-based curriculum
in line with the National Curriculum. School days (9am to 4pm) allow
children a balanced timetable for structured activities, free play with
many choices and quiet times. During their time at the school the children
will have experience of literacy (talking, listening, reading and writing),
mathematics, science, design, technology, arts and crafts, geography,
history, movement, drama, music, cookery, physical education, computers
and French. Educational visits are an integral part of the curriculum.
We go to
great lengths to prepare healthy, fresh, nutritious, balanced menus
which give the children variety: energy foods, foods for growth, tasty
foods & foods to encourage independence of eating. We aim to instil
a life long love of food. Freshly prepared, home cooked food is always
available from breakfast through to lunch and tea.
The Gower
School is open 48 weeks of the year, Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm.
The school closes for one week at Christmas and Easter, two weeks in
August and on Bank Holidays. We offer both full and part-time places
for under 4 year olds. Children from the age of 4+, preparing for entrance
to other schools, will be expected to attend on a full-time basis, either
8.00am to 6.00pm for 48 weeks of the year, or 9.00am to 4:00pm during
term times.
The Gower
School is committed to establishing and maintaining strong links between
families and the school. We run regular open days and individual tours
by arrangement, so that you can inspect at first hand our spacious,
colourful and welcoming premises.
Once you
have registered for a place at The Gower School you will be invited
to visit the school for an informal interview. Once a place has been
offered & accepted, a home visit can be arranged to talk you through
our settling in procedures.
Places at
The Gower School are limited and demand is extremely high, so places
will be allocated following a successful interview on a first come,
first served basis.
