Toilet Training

At The Gower School our philosophy is always to follow the child working with each child individually to meet their precise needs. We approach toilet training in the same manner making communication between a child's key person and parent vital. Working together with us, using the same timing and approach at the point that your child is ready will help this important transition in their life be as positive as possible with lots of praise.

There is no magic age at which children are ready to start learning how to use the potty, but some develop the necessary physical and cognitive skills between 18 and 24 months of age. Many parents don't start potty training until their children are 2 1/2 to 3 years old, when daytime bladder control has become more reliable. Some children are not interested in potty training until they are closer to 3, or even 4.

Once your child shows signs that they are ready, they will have more awareness of bowl movements and have the language to express their needs, please discuss this with your child’s key person and talk about a plan of action.
